Taking inspiration from the darkest depths of the ocean, Apu Jan’s AW13 collection was epitomised by the underwater world.

Charcoal greys and smoky blacks made reference to the prominent man-made deconstruction of natural fossil fuels whilst vibrant pops of cobalt blue made their way through to accessories; appearing on soles of black knit trim heel boots and thin belts; highlighting the lustrous shimmer of the ocean.

Despite the collection’s evident underwater inspiration, Apu Jan’s signature black knitwear; inspired by traditional Eastern dress, also prevailed with additional pleated detailing being thrown into the mix and the addition of white threads being placed on sleeves – creating an ‘unfinished’ look.

Accessories were key for the collection, with an additional play on the designer’s signature black knitwear being applied to a fringed hand cuff as well as exaggerated knitted collars being seen in both black and white designs.

Hair was tightly wrapped around white and blue hair pieces, on top of the model’s heads whilst bright pink, attention grabbing make-up was smeared across their faces.
